At Kuyper, we see education as a shared calling. Parents and the school working together to nurture children in faith, learning, and life. This partnership is strongest when we have a clear and shared understanding of what it means to offer a distinctly Christian education.
Our Understanding Christian Education seminar has been designed with this in mind.
Across two evening sessions, this seminar invites parents to explore the foundations that shape our approach to teaching and learning. Together, we will consider questions such as: How do we know what is true? What does it mean for education to be Christ-centred? How does the Bible shape the way we understand the world, and our place within it?
The sessions will move thoughtfully through the big story of Scripture, helping to make sense of its depth and coherence, while also addressing some of the common challenges people face when reading the Bible. From there, we will explore the idea of worldview—how our deepest beliefs shape the way we interpret life—and contrast this with prevailing cultural perspectives such as secular humanism.
Importantly, the seminar will connect these ideas directly to schooling. We will reflect on the purpose of education in light of God’s story, consider Kuyper’s distinct approach, and unpack what this means in practice. Along the way, we will speak honestly about the ongoing challenge of remaining faithful to our mission, and the vital role parents play in this.
This seminar is not simply about information; it is about strengthening the partnership between home and school, and deepening the shared work of forming young people who know, love, and serve Jesus. Seminars will include valuable opportunities for discussion. A light supper will be provided.
We encourage both parents to attend together where possible. However, the seminar will be run in both Term 2 and Term 3, allowing flexibility for individual attendance.
