Two weeks ago, several members of our staff had the privilege of attending the Christian Education National NSW/ACT Conference. It was a rich time of learning, encouragement, and fellowship with educators from Christian schools across the country who share a common desire: to see young people formed into the likeness of Christ through faithful Christian education.
As our Secondary staff reflected together on the conference earlier this week, we were reminded of how much of a blessing it is to serve in a school where Christ is acknowledged as Lord over every part of life, including learning itself; a conviction that has long been at the heart of Kuyper Christian School.
At the same time, the conference provided a timely challenge for us not to become complacent. We were encouraged to think carefully about the many rhythms that shape our students each day. Whether it is entering a classroom, asking questions, responding to bell ringing or transitioning between lessons, these repeated habits quietly form the loves, attitudes, and character of our students.
This has prompted valuable conversations among our staff. Is there a way in which these ordinary rhythms might point students more intentionally towards Christ? How might the daily life of our school more clearly reflect God’s Kingdom which we long for our students to embrace?
One example of this is our practice of beginning lessons with breath prayers. These brief moments invite students to pause, become attentive to God’s presence, and prepare their hearts for learning. They are a simple rhythm, yet they reflect our desire that learning would never be separated from knowing and worshipping Christ. This term, our Secondary team will be seeking more ways to implement character-building rhythms in our classrooms and school activities.
As we continue through this year, our staff ask for your prayers. May God continue to shape our school community. May He give us wisdom to teach well, humility to keep learning, and strength to faithfully point our students towards Christ in every square inch of school life.
