K-2 at the Zoo // On Friday, 16 May, students in K-2 visited the Sydney Zoo. Our learning focus was that people and animals have a connection to place. We learned that our wise and creative God has placed animals within special habitats that support and nourish them. We saw many animals and even patted some!
We attended workshops on Aboriginal culture. Year 1 and 2 students learnt about how the traditional custodians of the land (The Darug people) had a special connection to the land and used its resources wisely and sustainably for their flourishing. Kindergarten learnt about food and fibre. We all got ochre on our faces or hands – stripes for hunter boys and dots for gatherer girls.
It was a fantastic day with amazing parent helpers. Thanks God for the amazing creatures you made, for dry weather, safe travelling, joy, laughter, wonder and learning.
Mr Boughey, Mrs McAlpine and Mrs Kean.

Stage 2 Brewongle Excursion // Last week, our Year 3 & 4 classes had the privilege of learning in God's world at the Brewongle Environmental Education Centre, a student-specific learning centre on the Hawkesbury River at Sackville North, providing learning programs with an emphasis on environment and Aboriginal education.
The theme for the day was "You've got to give it away to keep it". For centuries, Aboriginal culture has been kept alive through the sharing, or giving away, of stories, and our Stage 2 students were able to experience the value of shared story as they participated in various activities at the centre.
Students were Welcomed to Country by Craig, a Dharug man, and paid respect to not only his elders but all elders. They played some traditional indigenous games – Wana and Gnaka Gnaka – while learning about conflict resolution and fairness. They learnt that bandaids really do grow on trees – the Geebung tree, and that Stringybarks make the best canoes. They enjoyed some 'bush caviar' from a Finger Lime tree and body-painted stories using white ochre while enjoying the views of the Hawkesbury River.
Our wonderful students represented Kuyper beautifully with the respect and trust that they displayed over the day. It was a wonderful day of living our learning!

Thank you to the candidates who were respectful to each other and to those who came out to listen and engage.
Brilliant initiative, Kuyper
