Mitchell Cavens, Head of Secondary
Earlier this week, we had the privilege of hosting our Stage 6 Information Evening for Year 10 students and their families. It was an encouraging time as we looked ahead to Years 11 and 12, considering both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with this next stage of learning.
Throughout the evening, we shared key aspects of life in Stage 6, including our semi-compressed learning model and the academic expectations students will encounter. More significantly, we reflected on the values that underpin learning at Kuyper. Our desire is not only to see students achieve academically, but to grow in wisdom, strength, and humility, so that they are equipped to use their knowledge for good as they step into God’s world.
A particular highlight of the evening was the opportunity for students to engage with their Morrisby aptitude reports. These profiles offered valuable insight into learning styles, strengths, and potential career pathways. Yet beyond the data itself, there was a clear sense of joy in the conversations that followed. Students, parents, and staff alike were able to reflect together on the unique ways each young person has been gifted, and to begin imagining how those gifts might be used in the service of others.
There is something deeply encouraging about these moments. As a community, we are not simply asking, “What will this student do?” but rather, “How might this student contribute?” How might they bring truth, beauty, and goodness into God’s world? How might they serve faithfully within their families, workplaces, churches, and broader communities? These are the questions that give shape and purpose to the learning journey ahead.
It was a joy to see these conversations unfold; grounded in hope, guided by wisdom, and shared within a community that cares deeply about the formation of each student. We are grateful for the partnership we share with families in this process, and we look forward to continuing to walk alongside this cohort as they prepare for the important years ahead.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
