Bill Rusin, Interim Principal
Schools are vibrant and active places, and we look forward to reconnecting with you and your children as the term begins. While many students are eager to return, others may take a little longer to settle back into routines. Be assured that our staff come with a mindset that seeks the best for every student in our care. If there are ways we can better support your child, we value your partnership and encourage you to connect with the appropriate staff so that we can be ready to care for and educate your children.
Preparation for our school musical is well underway, and it has been a delight to see so many dedicated students engaging wholeheartedly in the process. There is a wonderful sense of anticipation as they grow in confidence and work together towards what promises to be a truly special event.
In the midst of a full and active school year, it is worth remembering that steady, day-to-day learning is the foundation of your child’s academic journey. You play an important role in this at home—encouraging good habits such as setting aside time for homework, reading regularly, and modelling wise choices around screen use. Not every moment of learning will be thrilling, exciting or even interesting. However, there is deep value in perseverance, discipline, and the quiet growth that comes through consistent effort. Getting used to doing things because they need to be done takes time and emotional energy on the part of parents and children.
Resist the pressure to fill every moment with entertainment, make space for the natural moments of discovery—those wonderful “aha!” moments that arise simply by doing life together. Teachers treasure these moments as well.
Time at home also provides rich opportunities for children to contribute and grow in responsibility. Homework can be helping in the kitchen, making their bed, caring for pets, or assisting with household chores. There is always work to be done at home. Interspersed with this type of work are so many other wonderful opportunities and experiences.
We look forward to partnering with you in the exciting term ahead.
